Overview
“Open This Page” (Memo) — Intergenerational Memories App
1) Background
Many families lose personal stories, recipes, and photos over time—especially when generations live apart. Older adults often want to share memories, but existing digital tools feel complex or “not for them,” so family history is rarely captured in a structured, lasting way.
2) Problem
Family memories are scattered (photos, voice notes, chats) and disappear easily.
Intergenerational communication is often shallow (small talk), lacking shared prompts or meaningful topics.
Older adults face accessibility barriers (small text, complex flows, typing difficulty, low confidence in apps).
Users also worry about privacy when sharing sensitive family content.
3) Goal
Design a lightweight, family-only platform that helps people:
capture memories with low effort,
share them privately with family members,
make participation easy for older adults through accessibility-first UX.
4) My Role
Creator & UX/UI Lead:
Framed the concept and product direction
Led user research and insight synthesis
Designed IA, key flows, and end-to-end UI (from low-fi to hi-fi)
Iterated based on testing and feedback (including A/B validation)
5) Solution
A private “Family Hub” for sharing recipes + memories as natural conversation triggers
Multi-modal creation to reduce friction (voice, photos, simple text)
Clear, minimal navigation focused on the few actions users actually need
Optional path to turn digital content into a physical keepsake (e.g., printed book) to add “warmth” and permanence
6) Key Design Principles
Accessibility-first for older adults: readable typography, high contrast, large tap targets
Reduce cognitive load: fewer choices, guided steps, familiar metaphors
Privacy by default: invitation-based family space and controlled sharing
7) Outcomes
Completed multiple design iterations and delivered a high-fidelity, interactive prototype (68 hi-fi screens).
Testing showed strong usability for older adults: 100% completed the core task within 1 minute; overall satisfaction reached 94%.
Content creation completion improved from 32% to 91% after iterations.
